Applications of Cr12 steel material
Cr12 steel is a typical alloy Tool steel, Cr12 is a chinese Cold Work Alloy Tool Steel. Its Cold work Mechanical Properties is very nice. Cr12 steel with high abrasion resistance, micro deformation of cold work die steel, the wind hard tool steel, carbon content as high as 1.5%, chromium content as high as 11.5%, the heat treatment hardness can reach 60 HRC. Cr12 section steel can be used to:
a) silicon die is mainly used for small dynamic loaGBg conditions require high wear resistance, simple shape drawing and blanking dies.
b The system for manufacture benGBg molds requiring high wear, the complex shape of the punch, die, inserts, do punch, when the die is recommended, hardness 60 ~ 64HCR.
c) for the manufacture of drawing die die wear required, it is recommended hardness 62 ~ 64HCR.
d) for anti-cold aluminum extrusion die punch, it is recommended hardness 60 ~ 62HCR.
e) for benGBg carbon content of 0.65% to 0.80% proof builGBg steel, hardness 60 ~ 62HCR.
f) can be used for blanking die, punch, rolling wheels, shear blades, cold heaGBg die, clay mold.
g) can be used for thermoset plastic molGBg molds.

Forging of Cr12 steel material
Preheat slowly to 900~950°C then increase the temperature more rapidly to 1050-1100 °C. Do not forge below 1020°C. Then cool the Cr12 slowly after forging.
Annealing of Cr12 steel material
GB Cr12 tool steel is delivered condition normal at annealing and machineable. If need re-annealing. Heat to the Cr12 steel 900 °C and Soak thoroughly, then cool in furnace. After annealing, the Cr12 delivery hardness is 255HB Max.
Stress Relieving of Cr12 steel material
When must tools made from Cr12 alloy tool steel are heavily machined or ground , the relief of internal strains is advisable before hardening to minimise the possibility of distortion. Stress relieving is very necessary, stress relieving should be done after rough machining. To stress relieve, heat the component carefully to 600-650°C, allow a good soaking period (two hours per 25mm of ruling section). Cool in the furnace or in air. The tools be finish machined before hardening.
Hardening of Cr12 steel material
GB Cr12 Delivery condition usually is Annealing, so hardening is necessary. Heat the Cr12 tools in a controlled atmosphere furnace, if have not the controlled furnace, pack hardening is recommended strongly. Pre-heat Cr12 tool steel to 750~800°C, soak enough time until heat through. Then brought up to 1000-1040 °C, cooling in air or oil quenching.
Tempering of Cr12 steel material
Heat the GB Cr12, Heat uniformly to the required temperature allowing a soaking time of two hours per 25mm of ruling section. Withdraw from the furnace and allow to cool in air. Different tempering temperature will get different hardness. Typical tempering is 204°C, after tempering hardness 61HRc Min.
Welding of Cr12 steel material
In general, we do not advise the welGBg of alloy tool steel but users sometimes prefer to weld in order to avoid the cost of retooling. It should be remembered that this grade is an air hardening steel and that in welGBg the area of the weld attains a temperature of about 1000°C. Cracking is likely to occur during cooling unless proper precautions are taken. Popular methods of welGBg are atomic hydrogen and argon arc. We recommend you contact your welGBg consumables supplier who should provide you full assistance and information on welGBg alloy tool steels.
Nitriding of Cr12 steel material
Cr12 alloy tool steel can be nitrided to give a hard surface case. After the nitriGBg heat treatment, the Cr12 is then very resistant to wear and erosion. NitriGBg also increases resistance to corrosion.
Final Grinding of Cr12 steel material
GrinGBg the GB Cr12 Steel. Select the correct grade of wheel in consultation with the grinGBg wheel manufacturer. Ensure the grinGBg wheel is in good condition by means of a suitable dressing tool. Wet grinGBg is a preferable option using a copious supply of coolant. If dry grinGBg is resorted to then use a very soft wheel.
